Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

WOW!!! Is all I have to say!!! Never been to a Mexican fast food place that is this expensive!!! Food was just O.k. But the price was like you just sat down at a steakhouse. I mean who in there right mind would pay $16 for a steak torta, 1 taco, and rice and beans??? No sour cream or anything. Everything else was an additional charge. On top of that, they tell you to sit down before they ring your bill up, because they don't want people canceling their order and leaving. The guy is very nice, but I'm not there to be your friend, I'm there for a good meal and a reasonable price... This guy is nuts. Would have been $20 if I would of had a horchata with that... All me and my buddy could do was walk out laughing. Un-real people. Many other better options out there!!! Look before you dare come here.

Very small serving sizes on the daily specials. Friendly service and good tasting but just not a good value.

In town for business and was craving Mexican food. This place hit the spot. 2 hard shell and 2 soft shell chicken tacos (onion/cilantro only). The price was right! Washed it down with a Jarritos Mandarin.

Another establishment that proves small, family owned restaurants just do it better. Awesome food!

Zapata is my go-to place for a quick lunch. It is very close to where I work and I know that I can get in and out quickly. It is located in a little strip mall behind a McDonald's and next to a Subway. I gladly drive past both of these to get some tacos. The inside is tiny and the decor is charmingly divey with a crazy collection of chairs and tables that don't match. My favorite is the patio umbrella over one of the tables inside. Zapata is nothing fancy to look at, but it is clean and that is what is important to me when choosing a restaurant. The owner, who is usually manning the counter where you order and pay, is always friendly and appreciative of your business. I usually get the marinated pork tacos and a tamale. If I am eating in, I will order a Jarritos or horchata to drink. Their horchata is very tasty. The food comes out fast and hot. The pork is nicely marinated and tasty. I will definitely be back to Zapata. It is one of my favorite fast food places.

Waste of $11 and change. I know this is going to sound crazy, but I don't eat meat or beans, so the tacos I eat consist of only lettuce, tomato, and cheese. Plus a side of rice. Normally this is one of my favorite meals. Not today! Flour tortillas were hard and dry. Barely any cheese on the tacos (the cheese is the meat of my tacos). The rice is bland! Pretty much just white rice with a splash of grease. All that for $11!! Might have been worth it if it was good, but totally not. Won't be back :(

This place is the place to go when you want a quick lunch. Its located in a strip mall behind McD and next to Portillos. There is a currency exchange right next to the place. There is not a lot of tacos places in the business park of EGV to begin with. Its not a fancy place, the decor is awful, simply awful but the food is GREAT. The service is fast and courteous.

Holy cow!!! This place is BAD! The steak in my burrito was so dry and overcooked, it was almost inedible. The meat had no flavor to speak of. Fortunately the burrito was mostly lettuce. I think they threw some beans in at the very end of the burrito. It says there is cheese in the burrito, but there was none. Within a half hour of eating my stomach was in knots. The total for 1 burrito and a medium drink was $9.22; no chips or salsa brought to the table. Total rip off and horrible food! A lot of places I would give a second chance before posting a negative review, but I'm not even risking it here. HORRIBLE!

You have to be high to like this place. I just had the tiniest burrito on earth, with only cheese in it ( cause fuck lettuce) a taco an ant could eat and still be hungry, and some rice for $11.36. The fuck?¿

Scrumptious Mexican food!!! Fast service, prices are reasonable and super friendly. This place is like 5 minutes from where I work. Every time I'm craving Mexican food this is the place to go!! :)

I'm not usually one to criticize restaurants too harsh, but I really was not impressed with the food from Viva Zapata. I originally came to this strip of restaurants for the Subway, but thought I'd check out this Mexican Restaurant. As for the service, it was pretty good. The staff was friendly and the restaurant was clean. The food, however, was a let down for me. I just went with the skirt steak burrito, can't really go wrong with that right? I wanted Mexican Rice inside the taco, but they opted to put it on the side. It turned out, the rice was the best part of this meal. The burrito itself was bland and pedestrian. Absolutely nothing impressive about it at all. The meat tasted like it was frozen and defrosted, and the only toppings were lettuce, tomatoes, and beans. It was very bland and not a good meal. I ended up throwing 1/4 of it out, something I never do. I suggest opting for the Subway next door.

MMMM!!! Not too many "great" places in EGV to dine. But this place surprisingly knocks it outta the park! It's a 2 man show run by, who I presume is the owner (?) behind the cash register and his trusty side kick who cooks, buses tables, and delivers food. Both are incredibly friendly and polite. With about 10 tables, they bust their humps to get people moved in and out. Def not a sit and stay kind of place, but I have never felt rushed. Just prompt service with a smile, which is what I appreciate on a quick lunch break. It seems as if they have a big crowd of 'regulars' they seem to know pretty well. That's always a good sign! For this trip, I ordered the chicken and skirt steak tacos...both bargain priced at $1.85 each! Cooked with a corn taco, topped with lettuce, and cheese...what more can you ask for?! I also indulged in a side of refried beans and chips, which racked up a crazy $2.50 to my total. The real kicker is they offer a variety of daily specials which include 2 tacos, rice and beans (or soup), and a soda....all for (DRUM ROLL) $5.99!!!! How can you beat that?!

Great steak taco's, torta's, and salsa(hot stuff). Good value and best Mex place in Elk Grove. Take your food to go.

Anyone heard of bland food? This is it. I went a couple of times paid $10 for a torta and soda. Although i had called it in i still had to wait for about 15 minutes for one torta. Never went nor plan on going back. There are much better Taquerias nearby and for the $10 I paid then I get lunch for 2.

Good stuff. I imagine the best mexican option in EGV.
